About the Event

What is UzHack?

UzHack is one shared name for hackathons across WAYU’s international network: young people with Uzbek roots and international perspectives, building something together through technology. This edition, organized by WAYU Malaysia, challenges student teams in Malaysia to build smart-city solutions for Uzbekistan, with a focus on Fergana.

Why is Fergana the focus city?

Giving every team the same real city keeps ideas grounded and comparable. Promising solutions may be shared with relevant stakeholders in Uzbekistan.

Who is Polvon?

Polvon is the UzHack mascot, a red panda who loves to code. In Uzbek, “polvon” means a strong, brave champion.

Eligibility and Teams

Who can participate?

The event is intended for students studying in Malaysia. Students from Malaysian universities may be invited to participate alongside Uzbek students, subject to the final eligibility rules.

How many members can be in a team?

Each team has 3 members.

Do I need to study IT?

No. Students from every discipline are welcome, including business, design, engineering, urban planning and environmental studies. Teams with mixed skills are encouraged.

Registration

Is participation free?

Yes. Participation is completely free.

How do we register?

Click Register Your Team and complete the official registration form. Your team leader provides the team name, universities, chosen track and member details.

What happens after we register?

The confirmation page explains the next steps. Registered participants will also be invited to the official Discord community once the link is available.

Challenge and Submission

What are the tracks?

There are three tracks: Smart Healthcare, Smart Transport & Mobility and Smart Education. Each team selects one track.

What must we submit for the preliminary round?

Your project with an initial prototype and a short presentation video. Exact submission instructions will be announced officially.

Judging and Prizes

How does the selection process work?

Teams first compete in an online preliminary round of about two weeks. Judges then review submissions for about a week and select approximately 20 finalist teams for the offline Grand Final.

How will the winners be selected?

Judges score each project out of 100 points: innovation and originality (25), technical execution (25), practicality and relevance to Uzbekistan (20), impact and effectiveness (20) and presentation (10).

What are the prizes?

First, second and third place are awarded in each of the three tracks. Prize details will be announced once confirmed by the organizers.

Final Event Logistics

Where will the final take place?

The Grand Final is planned in Kuala Lumpur / Selangor, Malaysia. The proposed venue is iSpace, Marvellous Hall, subject to confirmation.

How long is the Grand Final?

Two days. Teams may choose to keep working overnight. Final presentations, judging and the awards take place on day two.

Mentorship and Technology

Will there be mentors?

Yes. During the Grand Final, teams continue developing their solutions with mentoring. Mentor profiles will be shared once confirmed.

Which technologies can we use?

Any technology requirements will be included in the official rules. Until then, focus on a solution that is practical for Uzbekistan.
